Kitchen Cleaning Tips From a Charlotte NC Pro!

Cleaning the kitchen can be a messy job. You may dread the thought of emptying your sink after the dishes have been piling up for days, full of caked on food and gunk that seems like it’s going to be impossible to clean off. Or maybe you have kids who are constantly dropping cheerios and crumbs on the floor, along with their supposedly “spill-proof” soppy cups that are full of apple juice that somehow makes its way out and forms a sticky mess that you don’t notice until you have a pest infestation…

Does any of this sound familiar? If you hate cleaning your kitchen, I’m here to tell you there are ways to make it go much faster and easier. Here are my best tips for cleaning your kitchen and keeping your sanity in the process.

Tip #1: Clean as you go. We spend a lot of time prepping food in the kitchen and it doesn’t take long for counters to fill up and dishes to pile up. A good rule of thumb that I like to use in my own house is “clean as you go,” which simply means to clean while you cook. After you prep your food, while it’s cooking on the stove or in the oven, that’s a great time to clean the dishes you used to prep and to wipe the counters. When you’re finished eating, you’ll just have a few pots and pans to clean. You can place your plates and utensils into the dishwasher, wipe down the kitchen table, and you’re done!

Tip #2: Put as many dishes as you can into the dishwasher. You actually use less water when you operate the dishwasher vs. washing your dishes by hand. So if it’s dishwasher safe, I recommend letting your dishwasher do the work for you!

Tip #3: Pre-soak hard-to-clean pots and pans. A little baking soda and some warm water goes a long way toward making your stainless steel shiny again. You may also want to use a little dish soap as well. If you pre-soak them, they’ll be much easier to clean. You won’t have to use as much elbow grease.

Tip #4: Let Rover eat your scraps. If you have a dog, don’t be afraid to call him over to the table when your toddler drops his food on the floor. Just make sure the dropped food is on the safe-to-eat list for pets. There are some foods that dogs cannot safely consume.

Tip #5: Relax! Play some music and try to have fun. Cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore you dread. And if you dread it that much, then you may want to consider my last tip…

Tip #6: Hire a professional. At the end of the day, if you really hate cleaning, it will only add more stress to your life. A professional house cleaner can help you retain your sanity by doing the hard work for you. I have spent many years cleaning kitchens and actually find a lot of enjoyment in the task, which is why I’ve chosen to make it my full-time business.
